Computer vision syndrome (CVS) is a temporary condition that often arises from prolonged periods devoted to staring at a computer screen due to focusing spasms. Common symptoms of CVS include blurred vision, headaches, fatigue, eye strain, neck pain, redness, dry eyes, double vision, and difficulties focusing. To alleviate these symptoms, the 20-20-20 rule is highly recommended: every 20 minutes, take a 20-second break to look at an object 20 feet away. This simple practice can help reduce eye strain significantly. Additionally, your optometrist may suggest a mild prescription for computer use with special coatings like a blue light filter, as well as artificial tears to combat dryness. By implementing these strategies, you can help protect your eyes and improve overall comfort while using digital devices.
